Emergency Food & Shelter
The local EFSP Board consists of citizens from Nash and Edgecombe Counties, and is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds. The funds, appropriated by Congress, are being distributed throughout the country to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas.
To be considered for funding, an organization must be: 1) a registered non-profit with the Internal Revenue Service, 2) have an acceptable accounting system and have an annual audit conducted by a certified public accounting firm, 3) practice non-discrimination, 4) provide emergency food and/or shelter, and 5) if the applicant is a private voluntary organization, it must have a voluntary board of directors.
